millage renewal 2022
The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority is asking voters in 7 municipalities to vote in the August 2022 election on the millage renewal question of whether to fund the Iron Ore Heritage Trail through a .1970 millage. This is a renewal for 6 years. Most home owners pay from $10-$20 annually.
The Iron Ore Heritage Trail is managed by the Authority who is responsible for building, managing, maintaining and interpreting the current 47 mile trail stretching from Kawbawgam Road in Chocolay Township to downtown Republic. The IOHRA has been successful in building a 47 mile trail for a variety of users. They are a State ORV sponsor for the Negaunee to Republic ORV trail and operate the non-motorized section between Ishpeming and Chocolay. The trail has tells over 70 stories of the Marquette Iron Range through interpretive signage and artwork and the majority of the trail is accessible for every one.
